- Webinar: Labor Vision for Higher Education in Maine- Tuesday, May 19th, 2026, 1-2 pm
ACSUM, AFUM and UMPSA have been working together collaboratively to outline a pro-labor vision for our University of Maine System. We have seen the impact austerity has had on our universities, our programs, and our students, and many of us feel changes and reforms are necessary to protect and improve all 7 universities. The three MEA-affiliated unions in the UMaine System have crafted a bold program to address the governance issues we face, and we have prepared a menu of options for elected officials to consider. We have started the process of briefing candidates for Governor about our views on the current state of the University System and things they should consider. We are hosting a zoom webinar for all MEA members in the UMaine System to learn more about the program ACSUM, AFUM and UMPSA have developed and ways you can get involved. The webinar will not be recorded but if you are unable to make it you can reach out to your local campus leadership to learn more.

- Webinar: Maine Labor History- Wednesday, March 25th, 2026, 12-1 pm
Often, we think of “history” as something that happened to other people, in other places, a long time ago. But for union members in Maine, our history isn’t just in the books—it’s in our paychecks, our safety protocols, and the very existence of our weekends. From the textile mills of Lewiston and the shipyards of Bath to the paper mills of the North Woods, the story of Maine is the story of people standing up and demanding a seat at the table. We’ve learned through decades of struggle that you can’t rely on a four-leaf clover or crossed fingers to secure a fair workplace. Progress isn’t a stroke of luck; it is a legacy built by those who came before us.
To help us connect these historical lessons to our work today, USM’s Scontras Center will present a special, condensed version of its Maine Labor History course specifically for UMS union members.
